Kiwohede runs counseling , support and care , rehabilitation and alternative program for child prostitutes, domestic workers, trafficked girls and those sexually abused and other vulnerable children and youth. Kiwohede provides a youth oriented training and skills enhancement , which teaches reading and writing skills, tailoring, tie and dye, embroidery, food processing, cookery, carpentry, sculpturing, weaving, hatchery, gardening, beekeeping, animal keeping (Goat and Pigs) and other important vocational skills. The program also teaches life skills and works on the prevention of HIV/AIDS through sex education, out reach program and theatre art and primary and secondary abstinence promotion for young people ages 12-18. Kiwohede also runs a credit scheme that teaches the means and skills in production activities that can sustain children and youth upon graduation. Marketing and employability skills has been the most focus The centers also have a child psychosocial counseling program (22) and a reproductive health education program for young people at the age of 7-18 years in 10 districts. The organization also works with orphan children, who because of their condition and their vulnerability have found themselves working in prostitution, have been trafficked and in hazardous domestic work.

DADA WA LEO 2012(IRINGA-ILULA)

DADA WA LEO is a project which is implementing by KIWOHEDE (Kiota Women’s Health Organisation) with a sponsorship of FHI 360. Dada Wa Leo project provide opportunity to economic strengthening education, reproductive health knowledge and prevention of HIV/aids. Coverage area is iringa and Dar es Salaam, in iringa areas of project are in four wards Ilula, lugalo, Nyalumbu and Irole.

 

Child Domestic Workers Project

The project aimed at protecting and preventing children with the age of 7 – 17 years old not being employed in hazardous domestic work. It operates at Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam, especially in high density populated urban areas of Manzese and Tandale wards.
The strategies used to reach the target beneficiaries are as follows:-

Through the use of local community leaders within the respective ward, together with responsible person within the project they identify children who work in hazardous domestic work and rescue them.

Through the established child rights committees within the street; Members of the committees have the task of identifying and report to the centre for the withdrawal process.

Establishment of Association of Responsible Employers of child domestic workers. The e employers’ act as role model to their fellow employers, also help in identifying children work in hazardous situation hence refer them to the centre for help.

Use of peer educators, child domestics themselves identify their fellow in hazardous work and refer to the centre for help.
